While presenting Fiat’s 5-year plan to investors and the automotive press earlier this week, FiatCEO Sergio Marchionne confirmed the Alfa Romeo Spider is coming to North America.
When asked about production of the Spider, Marchionne responded “That car may go to Brampton, I don’t know…”
Okay, so you’re saying there’s a chance!
Brampton is an underutilized plant and Fiat has been looking for ways to get the most out of it while supporting the re-launch of Alfa Romeo in North America. Last year it was rumoured that the Alfa Romeo 149 luxury sedan was slated for Brampton but it appears those plans are on hold.
Chrysler’s Brampton, Ontario facility makes a logical choice for producing the Spider (aside from the cold winters) because it’s home to Chrysler’s only RWD passenger car production line.
But Alfa Romeo won’t cure Chrysler’s woes. In fact, sales of the famed Italian brand have fallen considerably over the last 10 years. In fact, late last year Marchionne put the brand on “Strategic Review.”

Ferrari 458 has been with us for sometime, we’ve always wondered about a successor to the cabriolet version of the F430 that the 458 replaced. Just recently however, we’ve heard of a rumor that says the new 458 Spider could have a folding hardtop. There has been much speculation about the new 458 Spider, which will be debuting at the Frankfurt Motor Show later in September of this year. But the insider source told us that because the F430 Spider wasn’t capable of donning a folding hardtop, Ferrari over time has worked out those issues with the 458. So could a folding hardtop roof be more likely, especially since the California has a folding hardtop as well?Either way, the source also tells us that the transparent engine cover on the 458 Spider has been ditched, though the engine itself goes untouched.
